Credit Reports for employment purposes outline financial information regarding payment histories and also include public record information, such as bankruptcies, collections, lawsuits and judgments. Because they are designed for use with employment screening, they do not count as an inquiry on the individual's report, contain a credit score or reveal the subject's date of birth. The reports usually include verification of the applicant's name, current and two previous addresses, phone number, current and up to three previous employers and any aliases associated with the Social Security Number. The credit summary portion of the report contains the complete file including public records (i.e., liens, judgments, etc.), collection accounts, current or previous delinquent accounts, types of credit, total indebtedness, and "profile" (i.e., account charged off, repossessed, etc.). Use of credit reports must be in strict compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and other applicable state laws.
